I’m back ! welcome to the new site

Wow, over 8 months, and my site is now back online, at a brand new domain, mattpollitt.co.uk. Over the next two weeks, I’m hoping to get back to posting and put some of things i have been up to lately on here, including a few conferences, work @ ustwo , and as recently announced, some details into the work we have been doing on notus.

This was originally a test post to see if i could get flash working ok in wordpress. Since it looks nice, i have decided to leave it here.

This is actually a little fun particle generator i knocked together on the plane to Torronto, on my recent trip to FITC Mobile to run on a high end fl3 device. The motion is code generated, and the particles are a mix of minimal code and pre-made timeline tweens, including the colour shift. At the end of each particle motion, the clip deletes it’s self and frees up memory . The combination also means the processor is not bombarded by multiple instances and movies.

I have multiplied the number of particles created by 3 for the desktop version though, and added motion on 3 axis using a basic sine calculation.

Sybian bought out by Nokia, and announcement of the sybian foundation

via alessandro,

symbian logo

Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is paying 264m euros ($410m; £209m) to buy out the other shareholders in handset software firm Symbian.

Nokia, which already owns 48% of the UK-based firm, intends to develop its software to compete with Google’s planned Android operating system.

For its part, Symbian said the takeover was “a fundamental step” in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, which is expected to start operating in the first half of 2009.

The foundation will bring together Nokia, AT&T, LG, Motorola, NTT Docomo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone in collaboration on a new, royalty-free open software platform for mobile phones.

This looks like great news for flashlite development,

StreamMobile Tv – FlashLite 3.0 beta Application

streamMobileTV

I have just put a flv demo online for one of the new FL applications i have been working on.

It is in effect a mobile “channel” for a company called Stream that provide On Demand video via set-top boxes & a broadband connection in your home.

The mobile client allows you to log in and view Stream’s content on the move.

It is a completely dynamic menu system, updated via the server, which allows new content to be added on the fly.

The video is handled via Flash media server, and streamed directly to the handset.

The Demo application is connected to the internet by a o2 3G connection in this video.

view the demo here, (apologies for lack of sound)

New Adobe Dev Center article : Working with Flash Lite 3 and Flash Media Server video

hi all,

there is a great new article on the adobe M&D dev center , Working with Flash Lite 3 and Flash Media Server video written by Nick Hippe from Adobe.

In this article I’ll cover two scenarios for streaming Flash video from the Flash Media Server to Flash Lite 3. The first is the simplest possible example. In the second example, I’ll use script-based bandwidth detection to determine the bandwidth available to the device, and then stream the appropriate video based on that information.

This is a really cool article, and i found the bandwidth detection very useful.

Sony mylo 2 – Flashlite 3 web browsing

mylo 2

Interesting article via Bill’s site, about a new new sony product that supports fl3 web browsing.

The mylo 2 has an enhanced web browser with Flash Lite 3 integrated to allow users to view YouTube videos and other rich, interactive web sites that require Flash support. Since Flash Lite 3 only supports SWF content that’s published as version 8 or lower, web sites that are published as Flash 9 such as Flex applications will not be displayed.

Looking forward to seeing this in the UK

Club Moket goes live – Sell your Fl content direct to consumer

clubmoket

Dale has just informed me that ClubMoket has just gone live.

Club Moket (clubmoket.mobi on your phone browser) is, to our knowledge, the first off-deck mobile portal dedicated to selling Flash Lite content. We have launched first with our “Mokimations” catalogue, featuring animated wallpapers and screensavers. Q1-2 2008 will see games, applications and mobile video added to the service. We’re really pushing out content that shows off the great visual nature of Flash, as well as handset interactivity (for clocks, random animations, MoCarbon products, etc)

This presents an entirely new and accessible channel for global customers, and one that we look forward to filling with great content from the wider FL community through the Moket Content Network.

This is great news as it gives the fl community a great opportunity to start making money from personalization content.

to read the full press release , click here

to read dales blog post , click here

and to view the .mobi site, point your mobile browsers to clubmoket.mobi, and gain access to some great flash lite content for your mobile. (or stick your number in the widget on the sidebar of this site to have a wap link sent straight to your handet via SMS)

Matt who?

I have been working in the mobile application industry for the last 4-5 years, initially cutting my teeth on some early Flash Lite based applications back in 2005. After a couple of years working for my self, and a number of other clients, i moved to London, and became part of the team @ ustwo™, a creative UX / UI mobile design and development studio. This is my own personal blog, and as such , all of the opinions here are my own, and in no way representative of ustwo™
